Brigance loved sharing good news. Beginning his career as a school psychologist in the 1970s, Al noticed that assessment tools tended to emphasize what students didn’t know and couldn’t do. He wanted to change the conversation. Al envisioned assessments with a different emphasis—in-depth skill sequences that would reveal what students did know and could do and results that could be easily shared with families while supporting their dedicated teachers in planning instruction and monitoring progress. From Al’s vision grew our first BRIGANCE product, the Inventory of Basic Skills, and from there, BRIGANCE evolved into an industry-leading publisher of screeners, assessment tools, and instructional materials for Early Childhood and Special Education professionals.
